Abstract

The 1,2-disubstituted cyclohexene synthon shown in structure is found in several natural products (e.g. cyclolavandulal, )1 as well as in numerous useful synthetic intermediates (e.g. →→ tachysterols)2. Our interest in novel applications of electrocyclic reactions to natural products synthesis required a general synthesis for a variety of structures of type .
