Abstract
Although the Diels-Alder reactions of fulvenes have been extensively explored and exploited,2 there appears to have been only one account of an investigation of such reactions with 6-heterosubstituted fulvenes as dienes. Hafner, Schulz and Wagner3 have reported that 6-dimethylamino-, 6,6-bis(dimethyl-amino)-, and 6,6-diethoxyfulvenes do not undergo Diels-Alder reactions. We considered it of importance to investigate the practicability of this type of reaction with other 6-hetero-substituted fulvenes, since the resulting adducts could serve as the source of a variety of 7-substituted bicyclo[2.2.1]-heptane derivatives.
