Abstract

Rethrolones are the alcohol components of the pyrethrins, a group of naturally occurring esters of chrvsanthemic and pyrethric acid.²⁾ Pyrethrins are biodegradable and exhibit high insect toxicity but low mammalian toxicity.³⁾ These desirable properties have promoted interest in the synthesis of rethrolones.⁴⁾ In our previous paper¹⁾, we reported a new synthetic route to functionally substituted cyclopentenones according to the following reactions.
