Abstract

Substituted α,β-unsaturated aldehydes are important synthetic building blocks; and their unambiguous preparation has been the subject of much recent study². Most of the methods proposed, even though ingenious and leading to high yields, hardly lend themselves to economic bulk preparation of such compounds, particularly those of low molecular weight.
