Synthesis of N-Carbomethoxymethanocarbazole

Abstract

We wish to report the synthesis and spectral properties of N-carbomethoxyme thanocarbazole, 1, a novel 14π-electron methano-bridged heterocycle that exists in the closed norcaradiene form. The reports of Anastassiou¹ and Schröder² on aza[13]annulenes (2 and 3 respectively) have prompted us to report our findings on the bridged heterocycle 1.
