Abstract

We reported that γ-methylthiocrotonate ester anion is a versatile bifunctional enolate1; however, the hydrolysis of the methylthioenol products was difficult. To circumvent this problem and to demonstrate an extended versatility of this enolate system, the chemistry of the γ-methoxycrotonate ester anion was studied.
