Abstract
O-Phenylhydroxylamine (1), which we required in connection with another investigation, can be prepared in low yield by reaction of the phenoxide ion with hydroxylamine-o-sulphonic acid1 or by hydrogen chloride cleavage of the rather inaccessible phenyl benzhydroxamate.2 We now report a more convenient route via, hydrazinolysis of N-phenoxyphthalimide (Scheme), itself a novel compound.
