Abstract

The conversion of tertiary amines to iminium ions has been accomplished with such oxidants as mercuric acetate or trityl salts². We wish to report that hydride ion abstraction can be applied to enamines, allylamines and imines. Treatment of 1 or 3 with trityl tetrafluoroborate (⊘ = phenyl) affords 2 in yields of 91% and 63%, respectively.
