Abstract
A great number of aliphatic sulfenyl halides is known. Whereas many of them exhibit a halogen substituted alkyl residue, only few examples exist of such compounds containing a carbonyl or ester group as second functional group. All these compounds have been characterized by means of their addition products with olefins or phosphites, but none of them has been isolated as pure substance. In the case of the α-ketosulfenyl chlorides, the strong decomposition tendency makes the isolation (distillation) impossible1. The sulfenyl chlorides containing ester functions are reported to be stable for several
