Protection of Alcohols and Amines by 4-Methyl-4-Nitropentanoylation

Pages 469-472 | Published online: 05 Dec 2006

Abstract

Development of new protecting groups constitutes a significant precinct in synthetic methodology. Owing to the frequent presence of hydroxyl and amino functionalities in organic molecules, new blocking/deblocking procedures for these compounds are always greeted with enthusiasm. We now report that the 4-methyl-4-nitropentanoyl residue serves adequately in protecting OH and RNH groups.
