Abstract
During the exploration of a bisannelation approach to terpenoids2 (eq. 1) we required a general method to prepare o-alkenyl benzaldehydes. A number of o-directed substitutions of aromatic compounds have been developed in the past few years,3 but none has been applied to the preparation of o-alkenyl benzaldehydes. Recently Meyers4 and co-workers have reported an interesting route to o-substituted benzole acids via oxazoline intermediates.
