Abstract

Superoxideion (O2†)is formed electrochemically by one-electron reduction of o2 in aprotic media. Since o2 7 is an anion radical, it could, at least in principle, function as (a) an electron transfer (reducing) agent, (b) a base, (o) a hydrogen atom abstractor (most) easily as its conjugate acid HO2), and (d) a nucleophile.
