Abstract
The classical preparation of 1,2,4-oxadiazoles through the reaction of amidoximes with acylating agents such as acyl chlorides or anhydrides has been described frequently1–3. The synthesis proceeds via the O-acylamidoximes which are, however, not often isolated. Instead of acyl chlorides or anhydrides, other reagents have been used, such as ketene, mixed anhydrides, carboxylic azides and thioacetic acid1.
