Abstract

The application of ionic hydrogenation to the ethylenedioxy ketal of thiophene-2-carboxaldehyde 3 gave as the major product 2-carbotriethylsilyloxy tetrahydrothiophene 4 along with pclymeric material and none of the expected tetrahydrothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde ethylenedioxy ketal 5.
