A Synthesis of Norbisabolide via a Synthon Prepared by a Free Radical Reaction

Abstract

An improved synthesis of norbisabolide (1) is described starting from limonene. Free radical addition of acetic acid in the presence of manganese (III) acetate led to an ethylenic acid which is converted to (1) in acidic medium.
