Abstract
It has been reported that cyanuric chloride can be used as both dehydrating and desulfhydrating reagents for the synthesis of carbodiimides1), lactones2), isonitriles3), acid halides4,5) and alkyl phosphates6). In connection with a series of our comprehensive studies on nucleic acid analogs, we found similarly that some chloropyrimidines such as 2,4-dichloro- and 2,4,6-trichloropyrimidine can be used effectively for a variety of dehydration and desulfhydration reactions7). These reactions were characterized by the process via lactimlactam transformation of the pyrimidine ring.
