Abstract
A new method for the synthesis of vinylsulfinic acids from aldehydes is described. The homologated vinyl (tri-methylsilylethyl)sulfones were synthesized from the corresponding aldehydes by means of the phosphonium salt derived from the chloromethylsulfide of β-trimethylsilylethanethiol. The Wittig products could be cleaved with tetrabutylammonium fluoride followed by sulfur alkylation to produce new vinyl sulfones.
