Abstract

A rapid high yielding regioselective approach to cyanodeoxy sugars (5–8) has been developed by way of trans diaxial cleavage of the oxirane ring in 2,3-anhydrosugars (1–4) with cyanotrimethylsilane using aluminium chloride as catalyst.
