Abstract

Reaction of 2-acetylfuran with diisopropylethylamine and magnesium chloride followed by bromination gave 1,3-difuryl-3-hydroxy-1-butanone and 1,3-difuryl-4-bromo-3-hydroxy-1-butanone. Under similiar conditions 2-acetythiophene failed to react.
