Abstract

1,3-Pentadiyne, HC≡CC≡C-CH3, has been prepared with yields up to 78% by reaction of methyl iodide with sodium diacetylide, prepared in situ from 1,4-dichloro-2-butyne and three equivalents of sodamide in liquid ammonia.
