Abstract

The preparation, isolation of intermediates, and the mechanisms of formation of N-(3)-substituted hydantions were investigated. The synthetic pathway involved the reaction of α-aminonitriles with carbondioxide, neat, at room temperature to yield disubstituted ureas and subsequent reaction with water at room temperature to give new N-(3)-substituted hydantoins.
