An Expeditious Route to 3β,14β-Dihydroxy-5β-androstane-17β-carboxaldehyde

Abstract

An efficient and practical synthesis of 3β,14β-dihydroxy-5β-androstane-17β-carboxaldehyde is described. The key oxidative cleavage of the unsaturated lactone of 3-acetyldigitoxigenin 1 utilises RuO4 as catalytic and NaIO4 as stoichiometric oxidants.
