Abstract: Various substituted 1,2-benzoxazoles were prepared with good yields from salicylaldoximes and orthohydroxyphenylketoximes via intramolecular Mitsunobu reaction.

Note: it could not be totally excluded that the orthohydroxynitrile 4 could be the result of the ring opening of the benzoxazole 3a in basic conditions, as it has been mentioned previously^(2,10).
