Editorial Announcement, V. Roshan Joseph, Editor

I am pleased to announce that Professor Robert B. Gramacy of Virginia Tech will serve as the next Editor of Technometrics. His term as Editor will run from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2025. During 2022, which is my final year as Editor, I will continue to process all revisions of previously submitted manuscripts, but all newly submitted manuscripts will be handled by Professor Gramacy as Editor-Elect of the journal. After December 31, 2022, all manuscripts, both new and revised, will be handled by Professor Gramacy.

Professor Gramacy received a Ph.D. degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2005 and holds M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Computer Science and a B.A. degree in Mathematics, all from UC- Santa Cruz. He began as a Lecturer in Statistical Sciences at the University of Cambridge, UK and then moved to the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago as an Assistant Professor. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Statistics at Virginia Tech.

Professor Gramacy’s research interests are in the broad areas of Bayesian modeling methodology, statistical computing, Monte Carlo inference, nonparametric regression, sequential design, and optimization under uncertainty. He is an author of more than 50 journal papers and 12 R packages. He has recently published a book “Surrogates: Gaussian process modeling, design, and optimization for the applied sciences”. Professor Gramacy has received several awards and honors including the Youden Prize from American Society for Quality for the best expository paper published in Technometrics (twice in 2019 and 2020), Facebook Faculty Award in 2016, R in Finance best paper prize in 2011, and INQUIRE UK/Europe best paper prize in 2008. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (elected in 2020).

Professor Gramacy also has extensive editorial experience and other service to the profession. He served as Associate Editor of Technometrics from 2008-2021, of the Annals of Applied Statistics from 2019-2021, of the SIAM/ASA Journal on Uncertainty Quantification from 2018-2021, and of Bayesian Analysis from 2010-2021. He is currently serving as the President of the Section of Physical and Engineering Sciences of the American Statistical Association. As the current Editor of Technometrics, I have had the pleasure of observing his editorial and refereeing work first hand. He always produced thorough, articulate, and respectful reviews. His knowledge and foresight in computational methods will help Technometrics steer through the changing needs of the new era of data science. I am sure that he will be an outstanding Editor and we are very fortunate that he has agreed to serve in this capacity. The Technometrics Management Committee and the Boards of the American Society for Quality and the American Statistical Association join me in welcoming Professor Gramacy as the Editor-Elect and soon-to-be Editor of Technometrics.
