Abstract

This study aims to optimize coincidently main characteristics of acrylic high-bulked yarns, including yarn specific volume and tensile strength, using Taguchi method. Therefore, the L27 orthogonal arrays were used to design factors of production process of the high-bulked yarns such as percentage of shrinkable fiber, yarn count, yarn twist factor, relaxation temperature, and relaxation time. Based on the designed method, signal-to-noise (S/N) and overall evaluation criteria (OEC) techniques were employed for individual and coincident optimization of two studied characteristics, respectively. The S/N ratios and the OEC values were calculated and then, analysis of variance was conducted to analyze the experimental results. The optimum conditions to achieve maximum magnitude of yarn specific volume and tensile strength were determined, in addition to contribution percentage of each factor.
