Advanced Wound Dressings

Abstract

Wound dressings are an important part of the fast growing biomaterials industry. Recent years have seen the development and commercialisation of many innovative wound management products that combine the leading edge material science with a deep understanding of the clinical requirement of wounds and wound management. This paper presents a brief introduction to the various issues involved in wound management, and introduces the technical background of some key high-tech wound management products such as polyurethane foams and films, hydrocolloids, alginate and hydrofibre.
