Abstract

A study is reported of a survey of staple-length measurements in Australian merino skirting wools. It is shown that the average staple length of all merino skirting types examined was approximately 10 mm shorter than that of all the common merino fleece types measured. The other major difference in staple-length characteristics between merino fleece wools and merino skirting wools is in the within-sale-lot variance.
