Abstract

This paper describes a simple method, based on densitometry, for the assessment of surface textural changes due to wear in carpets. Using the technique, nylon 66 and polypropylene carpet samples were evaluated, both before and after wear trials. The polypropylene carpets showed a significantly greater loss of tuft definition than the nylon 66 carpets, and one result of the study was the successful quantification of such differences.
