A diffusive subcharacteristic condition for hyperbolic systems with diffusive relaxation

Abstract

In this paper, we study a diffusive limit of a semilinear hyperbolic system with relaxation. For a Cauchy problem with initial data prescribed around a weak traveling wave solution, we rigorously justify this limit using the energy method under a rather weak characteristic condition, called the diffusive subcharacteristic condition.
