On moments and uniqueness for solutions to the space homogeneous Boltzmann equation

Pages 533-539 | Received 22 Mar 1993, Accepted 05 Apr 1993, Published online: 13 Sep 2006

Abstract

Recently Desvillettes proved that the solutions to the space homogeneous Boltzmann equation possess all moments, provided that the initial data have 2 + ∊ moments in L 1. Here an alternative proof of this statement is presented, together with a proof that the result does not hold for pseudo-Maxwellian molecules. Two implications of the result are discussed: an analogous L p-result and an improved uniqueness result.
