Abstract

A new scattering kernel, giving boundary conditions for the Boltzmann equation, is introduced, exploiting a purely mathematical method already known, but never used until recently. The kernel is used for calculating the accommodation coefficients appearing in velocity slip and temperature jump formulas relative to the transition regime of rarefied gases. Drag, lift and heat transfer coefficients in free molecule flow are also calculated and evaluated numerically; some results are compared with experiment.
