Abstract
A multigroup model for the Boltzmann equation is proposed, which has the same structure of the multigroup equations obtained directly by speed discretization, and at the same time guarantees, at any approximation, exact fulfilment of conservation equations. The P 1 approximation and its relationship to extended thermodynamics are also investigated, and some two-group results regarding heat propagation are presented.
