Mathematical Simulation of the Dynamics of the Danish IC3 train

Abstract

We consider a mathematical model of the lateral motion of the half of the front car of the IC3 trainset. It consists of the half of the car body and a bogie on two wheel sets. The train runs with the constant speed, V, which is the bifurcation parameter. The wheel profile is the DSB 82-1 profile and the rails are UIC 60 rails with different gauges and inclinations.

We show a comparison between a simulation and measured results from a test on a railway line and we investigate the model as a nonlinear dynamical system. The results are shown on bifurcation diagrams and on plots showing the dependence of the linear and nonlinear critical speeds on the coefficient of adhesion, the stiffness and damping coefficient of the primary suspension and the damping coefficient of the yaw damper.
