Abstract

When firearms were first used in crime, it was thought that the use of less advanced weapons would reduce, as these appeared to pale in efficiency compared with their modern counterparts. However, of late, an increase in the use of these less advanced weapons has been seen in crime in Turkey, thus mirroring statistics around the globe. This study investigates knives used in criminal acts and which were submitted to the Van Regional Criminal Laboratory for examination in the period of 2010 to 2014, in order to determine the most common categories of knives used in crime and potentially help steer subsequent legislation.
