While sheep have been shown to be susceptible to experimental infection with Br. abortus (Bang, Citation1897; Zwick, Citation1910), there are only a few reports of the isolation of this organism from naturally infected ewes. Br. abortus infection of sheep has been recognized in France (Merou and Pineau, Citation1937; Huddleson, Citation1943), in Canada (Bruce, Citation1930), in the United States (Stoenner, Citation1951), and in Scotland (Young, Citation1953).
