Abstract

Extract

Salmonella cholerae-suis is considered to be the most common salmonella found in pigs. Following its first isolation by Salmon and Smith (Citation1885), S. cholerae-suis was thought to be the cause of hog cholera. However, hog cholera is now known to be due to a virus, while S. cholerae-suis is a common secondary invader in this disease.
