Abstract

Food poisoning of bacterial origin is of two distinct types. In the first, the toxin is produced in the alimentary tract by bacteria ingested with the food. In the second, the toxin is produced by bacterial proliferation in the food before ingestion. Salmonellosis and botulism respectively are classical examples of these two types.
