Bacillary haemoglobinuria of cattle had been recognized in Nevada, U.S.A., for many years before Vawter and Records (Citation1926) were successful in isolating the causative organism which they named Clostridium haemolyticum bovis. The organism was recovered from the typical liver infarct associated with the disease. They were able to produce experimental infection in laboratory animals and in cattle by inoculation with broth cultures of the organism.
