Arecoline hydrobromide enemata and their use in dogs to improve purgative efficiency of the drug administered orally

Pages 105-106 | Published online: 23 Feb 2011

Abstract

Extract

Forbes and Whitten (Citation1961) recorded field observations on the purgative efficiency of arecoline hydrobromide and have reported that, after administering the drug in solution, 81 per cent, of their dogs purged within a 2-hour period with a median time from dosing to purgation of 30 minutes. Purgation was considered to be produced when the dog passed liquid or semi-liquid faeces containing mucus, from the small intestine, which. is the essential material for cestode diagnosis.
