In New Zealand, the sale of some brands of non-living vaccines is in the hands of laymen. The veterinary clinician lacks the scientific knowledge to confirm the claims of excellence or superiority as advertised for any brand. This paper reports an attempt to assess the variation between brands and batches bought and administered as they would be by a typical farmer.
