Although the final test of a ram's fertility is his breeding performance when joined with the ewes, it is desirable to obtain knowledge of his fertility before this, and, if possible, before buying him. Nevertheless, until recent years, little attention was paid to the reproductive organs before the purchase or use of a ram, and the introduction of veterinary examination was an attempt to correct this oversight.
