Although Echinococcus granulosus has been recorded in the cat in both cystic and strobilate stages (Hall, Citation1919), it is an infrequent parasite in either form and the worms do not reach sexual maturity. Sweatman and Williams Citation(1962) failed to find Echinococcus in 347 wild and farm cats collected throughout New Zealand. Whitten and Shortridge Citation(1961) recorded an unusual case of secondary cystic hydatids in the peritoneal cavity of a cat. This note describes a very similar case seen during 1962.
