Abstract

Extract

To the writer, as a clinician on the East Coast of the North Island during the last fifteen years, the most constantly presented problem has been infertility in beef cattle. With changing economic conditions, cattle are no longer regarded as simply an adjunct to sheep farming and this changing attitude has further focused attention on the extent of the infertility. In addition, there has been considerable personal disappointment in that much of the advice given to breeders has since been proved to be incorrect or misleading. The first step was to define the problem on an area basis and then, later, to define the problem within herds.
