Chest-girth increases of some dairy calves dosed with methyridine, thiabendazole or phenothiazine

Abstract

Extract

A trial was set up to find whether the strategic dosing of dairy calves in the Kaipara area with either methyridine or thiabendazole, in place of the nicotine copper sulphate-phenothiazine succession commonly used in the area, could be justified by greater growth rates (as judged by chest-girth increases) and by less frequent necessary dosing (as judged by faecal egg counts). At the same time, it was hoped to compare methyridine with diethylcarbamazine in the treatment of lungworms (Dictyocaulus sp.).
