Abstract

Extract

Sir,—May I, through your columns, record the identification of larvae of Trichinella spiralis in a pig in New Zealand. The parasite was isolated from a portion of the pillars of the diaphragm of a pig by a digestion technique using pepsin and hydrochloric acid. At the time of writing this letter, samples have been examined from 3,806 adult pigs. The parasite has been found in only one of these samples. A full report covering descriptions of the parasite isolated, the nature of the samples and techniques used will be submitted to your journal at a later date.
