Papular stomatitis is a specific disease of cattle caused by a pox-like virus (Plowright and Ferris, Citation1959). It has been known for many years, and in all probability has a world-wide distribution, but the following report concerns the first record of this disease in New Zealand. Although a disease of minor importance, correct diagnosis is necessary in the differential diagnosis of the more serious diseases of cattle in which erosive or vesicular lesions of the oral cavity occur.
