Synchronization of oestrus in sheep has been achieved by the use of progesterone and progesterone analogues administered either as an intramuscular injection, or by an impregnated sponge inserted into the the vagina (Robinson, Citation1958, Citation1961, Citation1964; Denny and Hunter, Citation1958; Brunner et al., Citation1964; Clark et al., Citation1966). Twenty milligrams of progesterone administered every second day appears as effective as 10 mg daily (Robinson, Citation1958) and provides satisfactory synchronization and fertility to natural service (Lamond and Bindon, Citation1962).
