Abstract

Extract

Opinions have been expressed in recent years that birds, particularly aquatic birds, in this country, are a potential reservoir of Salmonella spp. for domestic stock. At Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre, Hamilton, several species of birds and wild mammals have been examined for evidence of salmonella infection. This paper reports the results of bacteriological examinations of aquatic birds from three environments, and rats from three sheep farms.
