Some observations on serum biochemistry in canine urolithiasis

Pages 57-62 | Received 11 Nov 1968, Published online: 23 Feb 2011

Abstract

Extract

In human urology, the association of metabolic disorders and urolithiasis is well established (CitationHiggins and Straffen, 1963). Consequently, the determination of serum electrolytes are routinely undertaken in urolithiasis patients. In dogs, the incidence of metabolic disorders and their association with urolithiasis is unknown. In order to elicit whether such disorders are involved in the genesis of canine urolithiasis, the serumlevels of calcium, inorganic phosphorus, magnesium and urea were determined in a series of dogs with this condition.
