Abstract

Extract

BRachygnathia inferior is a condition where the incisor teeth meet the maxillary pad behind its anterior angle. It is often referred to as undershot jaw. In cattle it has been demonstrated under adverse grazing conditions to be economically important (Hancock, Citation1950). Donald and Wiener (Citation1954), Koch (1955), Grant (Citation1956) and Wiener and Gardner (Citation1970) all considered brachygnathia a heritable condition, but did not agree on the model of inheritance. Donald and Wiener (Citation1954) thus concluded that its inheritance is not always of simple Mendelian type. Grant (Citation1956) suggested that under-developed mandible is due to a recessive gene.
